
An interactive discussion among creative cities of the Qingdao Film Cities Summit was held at the 1907 Movie Club on June 7. Representatives from the film cities of UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), including Bradford of the UK, Rome of Italy, Sydney of Australia, Santos of Brazil, and Bitola of Macedonia as well as domestic creative cities, such as Beijing and Shanghai, and film and television companies from Qingdao have announced The Mission Statement of Qingdao City of Film upon discussions about several subjects. Speeches have been delivered around topics like Film Financing and Production Management, Licensing and Intellectual Property, Strategic Conception on Qingdao’s Cultural and Creative Industrial Investment, etc. to help Qingdao apply to be the world City of Film, and finally materialize the Statement.

The Statement proposes that film and creativity will serve as an engine for the sustainable development of cities. The cities involved should share their respective knowledge and experience to this end, make concerted efforts to power sustained development of cities, and make contributions to maintaining cultural diversity, improving world film culture, and bringing more benefits to people.
Film Cities Summit shall be organized regularly. On the sidelines, cooperation and exchange activities will also be organized for member cities, observers, film and television education and production institutions, etc.

More cities shall be invited to the Creative Cities Network. Film shall be taken as the most important medium of communication among cities. Cooperation shall be boosted among city members, and more cities will be supported to join the Network and help enhance its influence.
Cultural exchanges shall be strengthened among film cities. Hopefully, the film and cultural bond will tap more cooperation potentials in economy, education, science and technology, tourism, and sports among member cities. A more open cultural environment will be created for the development of cities. The international influence of film cities shall be improved with communication channels and areas broadened and exchanges with other creative fields strengthened.

A regular, long-term and sustainable mechanism shall be set up to serve other film cities. It shall also guide China’s film industry to thrive on the international stage by broadening cooperation.
Meanwhile, Qingdao, as the applicant city, plans to build a World Film Bay to exhibit theme sculpture of each member city and the public art sculptures as well.
