In 2016 Qingdao’s box office made a staggering 406 million yuan, a 1.5% increase from only last year. Only Five years ago this figure was still in the tens of millions making awe of the rapid development of Qingdao’s film and television in the past few years. The time is right for Qingdao to usher in a new age of film and television industry development.
March 22 marked the day that the last steel components were installed to Qingdao’s “Oriental Shadow”, the worlds largest indoor film and television studio. Its been reported that throughout the next year as the Lingshan Bay Film and Television Cultural Industry Zone in Qingdao promote major cultural industry projects, the studio and industrial park will complete and additional 14 studios. By the years end the East Shadow Television Industry Park will have 30 studios and 24 movie sets.
Qingdao has become renown for big brand names Haier, Hisense, Tsingtao Brewery and many other well-known brands. In recent years, Qingdao has put its best foot forward in earning the titles “ Sailing Capital, Music Island, and Film City”. “As an important carrier of the title ‘City of Film and Television’, Lingshan Bay Film and Television Cultural Industry Zone is planning the construction of a film and television shooting and producing base, in addition to a film and television exhibition and theme park.”. Li Ming of the Qingdao Municipal Culture, Radio, Film and Television Press and Publication Bureau told reporters that with the industrial and hardware facilities gradual improvement the park will be put into operation in a timely manner.
Last December saw the release of the film “Great Wall”. Filmed in Qingdao’s Lingshan Bay Film and Television Cultural Industry Area-Based location, the filming of the “Great Wall” provided support for film and television services and Qingdao’s legitimacy as a key location for shooting film. “Relying on the ‘Great Wall’ filming experience, Lingshan Bay Film and Television Cultural Industry Zone Production Service Center is preparing to provide full-time service to Qingdao Film and Television crew personal” .
Its expected that in the next three years 11 Hollywood block busters will be filmed in the area. Founded in 1995, Qingdao famous film and television transmission Co., Ltd. is Qingdao’s and Shandong provinces private film and television business leader. The company’s general manager Zhang Wei said "The film and television industries potential is unlimited. the global trend of global integration of the market economy, in addition to providing and improving the implementation of preferential policies, the introduction of the town, how to accurately locate, do a good job, acquire bigger and stronger differentiated services, such as actor brokers, film and television finance, film and television arbitration industry services, decision makers and practitioners is a serious problem the industry will have to consider”.
