??Qingdao has been a famous attraction for Chinese film makers as early as in the 1930s when the film industry first took off in China. In recent years, especially since the 1990s, a series of hit films and TV serials including the Black Hole, Cell Phone, Chinese-way of Divorce, A Soldier’s Secret, and Tiny Dusthave all choose Qingdao as the filming site with famous stars coming to the city. This has made the fame of Qingdao’s beautiful costal views. 

The sea, beaches, European style architectures and various unique tourist attractions make Qingdao an ideal shooting location, which also win Qingdao the fame of the “natural movie studio”. Yet in the hit movies and TV serials staged this year such as the Great Wall, Heat Above Water and Deep Water Forces, the landscape is not the only attraction of Qingdao. 

The Oriental Movie Metropolis located at the west coast of Qingdao has become the largest film and TV industrial Park in the world. 30 indoor movie studios are planned to be established here with 15 completed and put in operation now. When completed, it is expected that more than 30 foreign films and 100 domestic films would be shot here every year. Currently, dozens of domestic and foreign films including Wandering Earth, Pacific Rim 2 of Hollywood, Crazy Aliens, A Better Tomorrow 4 and Siam are now shooting in the West Coast of Qingdao. The Oriental Movie Metropolis injects new vitality and strength to Qingdao as a “City of Films”.
