
On July 17, a pep rally themed "working hard for 60 days to accelerate the buildup of the area" was held at the Lingshan Bay Film and Television Culture Industry Area (hereinafter referred as Lingshan Bay Culture Area) in the West Coast New Area of Qingdao. It aims to finish the roof of 15 studios of the industry area’s second stage project in September. Taking the benchmark of "Hollywood + Silicon Valley", Lingshan Bay Culture Area strives to build a "Film City" and "Smart City". A total of 60 billion yuan RMB has been invested to develop three major industries, namely, film, science and technology and tourism.
It is reported that one of the priorities of the pep rally is to promote the development of 10 major projects listed both at municipal and district level which have attracted 40.6 billion yuan RMB investment in total, and ensures 100% projects starts. The other priority is to accelerate the 42 projects which have been listed by the “Project Implementation Year” Plan. Contracts on 20 projects out of the 42 should be signed, 10 should be started and 12 should be completed. Mr. Wang Zhijun, president of the West Coast New Area Development Group said: “Qingdao and the West Coast New Area have never faltered their determination to develop the film industry and build a ‘City of Film’. We will build a world class film and television base as scheduled. The Oriental Movie Metropolis will be completed this year and open on April 28, 2018.”
