
On the afternoon of June seventh at the Qingdao Shangri La Hotel more than 40 countries met to discuss the “ Qingdao Declaration on Media and Sustainable Development”. Their conclusion Under the urgent challenged of poverty, conflict, economic inequality, environmental degradation and change i todays world, the media, governments, and United Nations agencies should act together to promote social development and progress.
The “Qingdao Declaration” also fully embodies the progress of Asian media in this new era and its efforts to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in promoting media prosperity and honoring the worlds commitment to sustainable development.
The UNESCO Creative City Network “FIlm City” Bradford, Santos, BIto, Rome, and Sydney were invited to attend the summit. After discussion the invitees and Qingdao representative put forward the following initiatives:
Firstly, active implementation of the UNESCO Creative Network purposes. This initials making film and creative an important driving force od sustainable development for the city. To share mutual knowledge and experience in order to promote urban development and positive contributions to maintain the importance of cultural diversity.
Secondly, regularly held summit meetings. Held in the same location with the same number of members each time while encouraging production agencies and film education institutions to participate.
Thirdly, support the creative city network and nurture its growth. As film is a vital aspect of communication between the media and the city of Qingdao, to maintain a healthy relationship between the two.
Fourth, strengthening of the cultural ties in the “City of Film”. Focusing of the art of film, education in film and television, the industry, youths and there area of exchange and cooperation to support folk culture.
Fifth, expansion of the cities international influence on film. Promoting the city of film so it continues to grow and expand its channels of communication and exchanges with other creative giants.
Sixth, the establishment of a sustainable long-term working mechanism for the cities existing services to grow with the film and television industry.
